And every man that striveth for the mastery is TEMPERATE IN ALL THINGS, Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1Cor. 9:24-27
If you must get to the top and reach your goals and destination in life, then you must learn how to remain focused, steady and consistent. Without self control this can be an arduous task. Self control is the foremost ingredient you need to remain focused, steady and consistent, and consequently win in life.
Apostle Paul was a classic example of focus and distinction in ministry by temperance. He emphasized the need to run our race with focus to obtain an incorruptible prize; hence he underscores the value of temperance /self control as a tool of gaining mastery. He wouldn’t allow his body to derail him or steal his focus.
The NIV version of verse 27 puts it this way "…..No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave”
That is classic! …That is SELF CONTROL!!
Joseph was another great example of an ability to say NO and stay NO under pressure. Something in him made him stronger than lust for casual sex or a seemingly harmless opportunity. I hope you too are running to obtain something incorruptible.
Beloved, self control is compulsory in our spiritual journey.
May self control become your priceless tool; and may the Lord open your eyes of understanding and tune your heart's desire towards earnestly building self control into your system in Christ Jesus Name.
