THE BEGINNING OF AN ERA

I was asked two questions which I could not solve when the questions came. I was in the church of Saint Peter when a female student asked me, these questions. One of the questions are “How do we raise the reading habits of Nigerian readers?” And “How can through good books, authors put the fear and wisdom of God in to the hearts of our children, the readers?” These questions could not be answered when it was asked, because I was facing the task of defending my master’s degree thesis in The University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Lessons from the people, who leave our lives and say goodbye to our dreams are becoming constant, because of our faults and mistakes makes me want to define who I am in the business world by starting a business of my own. When a single verse in the bible said, “Jesus Wept”, Jesus really wept. You should be able to understand, the urgency of such words. Beloved, I wept in my tears, I made mistakes. I think it would ease my worries to make such decisions. 

So, I saved up enough money to register a print and publish company. I put out names like DOLUO BOOKS, JLC MEDIA in the name search for the business registration. So, JLC MEDIA was finally registered in Nigeria to operate a business of publishing books.

JLC MEDIA STANDS FOR JESUS LOVED CHILDREN MEDIA.  God finally answered my prayers and by July 1, JLC MEDIA was signed and granted permission to operate as a publishing company in Nigeria, producing quality books for God’s children.

Nigerian literature had suffered many challenges over the last decades. Readers had to endure a paucity of good books from local writers and have relied heavily on secular literary giants of old; books unrivalled by their mastery, power of evocation and truth, but lacking in today’s representations and narratives- fundamentals upon which the literary culture of the society is built.

We have also suffered through the seemingly published and getting our works to the world. To the few daring writers to the world that we know. To the few daring writers who braved the route of self-publishing, getting their books to the readers has been the toughest challenge of them all. But we have soldiered on regardless, and in the last decade, we have registered a growing number of literary warriors, men and women, who have number of all odds to make our voices heard. Nigeria has recorded bookstores, book vendors and a great many voices clamoring to be heard.

We accept manuscripts under our imprints. If accepted as JLC MEDIA author, the accepted work is edited by professionals and then packaged for publishers and marketing. JLC MEDIA authors receive their royalties for their work as agreed in the contractual document that clearly states the terms of engagement.

We also carry out publishing services under our subsidy imprint VITUS BOOKS. We accept all kinds of books under this imprint with the condition that the author pays for the service of editing, printing, packaging and possibly distribution and marketing.

Submissions 

Thank you for your interest in getting published by us. We love African stories that deal with any one or more of plethora of themes that engulf us; stories that resonate, written simply; from this side of the world with a universal appeal; something new, something exciting, stories that makes the heart leap with joy and sorrow and your hands shake; book that you press into the hands of all your friends immediately and stand over them until they have finished, so you can discuss it together. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

1. WRITE A 500 WORD ABOUT YOURSELF. (NOTE: we will publish it in the author’s list of authors we have come across, whether you succeed in being our author or not. With this, we have accepted you, that others will do the same to you.

2. We publish more of children, teen and young adult, family novella/short novels.

By Novella/short novels, we have a word limit to how many words you should write. It is either 17,500 words to 39,000 words. You have to be informed that 39,000 words for a book, you may celebrating 200 page novels. We seek to publish a maximum of 160 page novels. In order to help us, get a long note and write a hundred and twenty page, in typing it will get us one sixty page book, if you have a big handwriting, add extra twenty page of the one twenty page that you intend to write.

3. Type and edit your manuscript well. The criteria for us to like your book are a good appealing story. we will edit and publish your book.

4. If you can bring the handwritten work to our office, the better.

5. If your book sells well, we shall put the book into a one plate compact disk film, not part two or three. We expect your novel shall have good amount of conversations too.

6. State your audience, (children/youth/family) we want a book that is safe for all categories to read including children.

7. You will be required to attach a sample of the work in question if you have typed it, in Microsoft word.

8. Send the first three chapters of your manuscript to us. Also write a two hundred work synopsis. Note: we desire the right to publish your synopsis of two hundred words, so other publishers and readers might read it.

9. Once we accept a manuscript, we get to work immediately as you sign our invitation agreement forms, and proceed with the publication of the book.

10.  We don’t reject manuscripts except it is outside out publication zone.

Our distribution arm is called JLC DISTRIBUTION. We handle logistics for individual, corporate organizations as well as publishing companies. We do door-to-door deliveries of books as well as inter-state and inter-country deliveries. We are fast, efficient, reliable, and our channels and let us take the burden of distributing your books off your shoulders.
