    THE SHIFTING GOAL POST
    Scripture Reading: Genesis 31:1-13
And you know that with all my might I have served your father. Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me. - Genesis 31:6-7
Can you imagine working for a boss who reduces your salary every year? How would you feel if you got notification of a salary reduction every year? That's what happened to Jacob. Instead of an annual increase, as is the convention in several workplaces, he actually experienced a wage cut every year for ten consecutive years. This is in spite of the fact that he worked very hard and put his all into his work.
Sometimes, the rules of engagement in life seem to be constantly shifting to your disadvantage. It is almost as if someone influential is determined not to allow you to break through in life. Anytime you seem to be getting on top of things, the "marking scheme” is changed again to your disadvantage. The phenomenon of a shifting goal post is enough to break the resolve of even the strongest person. But what did Jacob do? He persisted for ten years and refused to be broken. The good news is, because of covenant relationship and his vow to honour God, God's eyes were on him.
Eventually, God favoured him and prospered him even under a seemingly impossible contract. God is able to make a way for you in the most hostile of situations. The key to that level of favour is an. unwavering relationship with God and total trust in His word.
Prayer: Remember me, Lord, and make a way for me, even in seemingly impossible situations.
