In fact, the Bible is full of people who stepped into God’s “yes,” but their story didn’t come without a mess. Yet, somehow we still seem to hold certain expectations about what it means to be blessed by God or receive His “yes.”
We all want the key to unlocking mess-free blessing in our lives. But assuming that God’s blessings will always result in smooth sailing can lead to disillusionment if we aren’t careful.

I had always loved the Psalms. I turned to them for comfort, truth, praise, and to know God more deeply. Like many Bible readers, I also knew that Jesus quoted the Psalms more than any other Old Testament book. But eventually I found myself asking a different question:
How did Jesus actually use the Psalms?
The more I studied the New Testament, the more fascinating that question became. Across its 260 chapters, there are roughly 100 direct quotations from the Psalms and more than 400 references or allusions to them. No other Old Testament book is woven into the New Testament as extensively. If the Psalms were so central to Jesus and the early church, I wanted to understand why. And if Jesus knew them so intimately, I wanted to know them that way too.

Jesus and His disciples stirred up dust on the gravel roads as they approached the region of Caesarea Philippi. Picture the back-and-forth banter, the questions, and stretches of thought-provoking silence.
Suddenly, Jesus turned to His disciples and asked, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets” (Mt. 16:13–14 NLT).
Jesus halted the group, and they all gathered around Him. They sensed that another essential lesson was about to unfold. Jesus opened His hands before them and asked, “But who do you say I am?” (v. 15, emphasis mine).
