The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
— Psalm 18:2
God doesn’t always answer our prayers according to our timeline.
Sometimes the answers just aren’t what we’d expected or hoped.
And sometimes, it may even feel like they aren’t answered at all. But take heart that even if for now we know only in part, one day we will know fully, even as we are fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12).
God’s timing matters.
His reasons for when and how He answers our prayers may be beyond our ability to see at the moment, but that’s because He sees the bigger picture. We can only live in this present moment, but God is omnipresent, living eternally in each and every moment. He sees how all the many pieces fit together, and He is working all these things together for your good.
Find rest in God’s timing. Know that it may not be what you want, and you may have to lay down your own desires, but God is working for your eternal good. He is trustworthy. Have faith that His perfect answer is coming, in His perfect time.
Father, help me trust that You answer my prayers perfectly and at the perfect time.

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
— Proverbs 18:10
Imagine you’re walking down a busy sidewalk. What would happen if you suddenly stopped and sat down to rest right in the middle of the sidewalk? You’d probably get bumped and knocked around. It wouldn’t feel particularly restful because you’d be distracted—by the threat of imminent trampling!
That’s often how it feels when we try to rest in this busy world. There’s just so much going on.
We sit down to pray, and the phone rings. We close the door for quiet time, and a child pounds on the door.
How can you sit still and find rest without getting trampled? First, get off the sidewalk. That means you need to set what boundaries you can and make your times of rest clear. Tell your kids, even if it means they get more screen time than you would prefer. Turn off your phone.
Remove any distractions that you can. Then you can fully focus on being still before the Lord.
You can sit still in a busy world; it just takes some boundaries.
Help me create time and space without distractions so I can sit still before You, Lord.
