5 Ways to Release Worries and Trust God More |

I used to worry—a lot. I was the kid who stayed up at night worrying that something terrible would happen…that my parents might die, that I'd fail a big test, or that I would never quite measure up. When I became a mother nearly 18 years ago, my worries didn't just grow....they multiplied! Suddenly, I wasn't just worried about myself. I was worried about my baby...and eventually the three more babies who followed. I worried about them choking or drowning or getting sick or lost in a store. You name it, and that worry probably crossed my mind in my early days of motherhood. Motherhood has a way of shining a spotlight on where our trust truly lies. For me, it revealed just how tightly I was holding onto fear instead of faith.
Maybe you've felt that too. The good news? No matter your current life season, God doesn't ask us to pretend we don't have worries. He invites us to bring them to Him and learn to trust Him more deeply in the middle of them. |
If worry has been weighing on your heart lately, you're not alone—and you don't have to navigate it by yourself. That's exactly why we're diving into this together in our FREE Online Bible Study, Relaxed by Megan Fate Marshman. You can join us here. |
Here are 5 simple ways to release your worries and grow your trust in God: |
1. Meditate on Scripture. When two of my babies were overdue—12 days late for one, nine days for another—I found myself consumed with worry. Would they ever come? Would the births be safe? In these moments, I chose Scripture to anchor my heart. One verse I clung to was: "He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You." — Isaiah 26:3 I repeated this Scripture to myself over and over again. I encourage you to pick a verse and do the same during times you feel worries rising. Letting God's Word fill your thoughts creates space for His peace to replace your anxiety. 2. Invite others to pray with you. Not long ago, Laurie—one of our amazing OBS leaders—prayed with me over the phone. I shared some personal struggles I hadn't even planned to say out loud, and she simply listened…and then she prayed. Something shifted in me. When we invite others into our worries through prayer, the burden lightens. We were never meant to carry our worries alone. |
Laurie and I were fast friends when we first met in person in July 2025. I'm grateful we've been able to pray together multiple times now! Praying with other believers always helps me release my worries. |
3. Bring your worries to God honestly. Sometimes we try to shut down our anxious thoughts. I'm guilty of suppressing negative feelings instead of admitting they're there. What if, instead, we let those worries surface—and then immediately hand them over to God? God isn't intimidated by your fears. He welcomes our honesty and meets us right where we are. "Trusting in the Lord begins where you're at. God wants to meet you right where you're at." —Megan Fate Marshman 4. Practice surrender, not control. I spent a decade of my life incredibly worried and fearful of driving on the interstate. Then one year, I chose "brave surrender" as my words for the year. At first, I even said out loud as I merged, "Jesus, take the wheel!" (Thank you, Carrie Underwood!) It's funny to think about now, but sometimes the act of verbally surrendering is exactly what helps our worries begin to loosen. Worry often grows when we try to control what was never ours to carry. Each time you feel that tight grip of anxiety, pause and say, "God, I trust You with this." 5. Return to trust—again and again. Trust isn't a one-time decision. It's a daily return. Sometimes hourly. Sometimes moment by moment. Every time you release your worries and choose to trust God again, you are strengthening your faith muscles—and discovering His faithfulness in a deeper way. |
