The suffering we didn’t see

Isaiah 53 reveals what Jesus carried—and invites us to reflect this Holy Week.

Behold the Lamb  Isaiah's words invite us to slow down and truly see what is happening.    This is not only a picture of suffering—it is a picture of love. The one who is rejected and wounded is not suffering for His own wrongdoing, but for ours.    As the NIV Application Bible, available with Bible Gateway Plus, explains:   It is our suffering that he carried for "our transgressions" and "our iniquities" (v. 5). The servant has suffered in "our" place. "We" (v. 6), the blind, rebellious people of God (cf. 42:18–25), are the sheep who have gone astray, but he is the one who gets beaten for our willfulness.  Seeing What He Has Carried  We are the ones who have gone astray.
