Welcome to Session 3 of I Want to Trust You, but I Don't by Lysa TerKeurst. We'll study how God models the principle of repairing rips in relationships throughout Scripture and implements it in our relationship with Him and others. We can see His track record of trustworthiness throughout the pages of Scripture. Let's dive in!

Insight

The Key Verses above each describe making or building something as a sign of trust in the Lord's promises. Let's look at Genesis 8:20 together, using the NIV Reverse Interlinear.

Here, when you click on the word "built" you see find that it is translated from the Hebrew word "bānâ" and if you review the definition, available with Bible Gateway Plus, you can see many words that you can identify with keeping promises. Such as "established" and "fortified" – what better way to honor a promise than to build a physical manifestation of it? Here, you find alters, tabernacles, arks, and temples built as a sign of faith.

You can read more about how the Hebrew "bānâ" and Greek "oikodomeō", are used in the Bible. The Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary, explains even further that the Greek word for build, "oikodomeō becomes a significant metaphor for the mutual encouragement and strengthening of the people of God."
