The Requirements of Trust |
"Our circumstances and our understanding of what's happening to us may feel risky, but God's character contains no risk. He is always trustworthy." - Lysa Welcome to Session 1 of I Want to Trust You, but I Don't by Lysa TerKeurst. This week, Lysa kicks off our study by helping us better understand the requirements of trust by studying the One who is completely trustworthy. The key Scripture this week is 1 John 4:7,10-11 (NIV). Let's read it together:
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. |

This week, Lysa reminds us that if we want to see how safety and connection play out in a healthy way, it's this: seeking each other's highest good. This is reflected in the NIV Cultural Backgrounds Bible, where it says next to 1 John 4:7, "Everyone who loves has been born of God. A child was held to reflect the father's nature." However, just as we have a command to "love one another," we must be careful not to see this command to love as a demand to trust no matter what. |
With Lysa TerKeurst's teachings and the premium resources accessible through Bible Gateway Plus, you'll gain a deeper understanding of Scripture in your Online Bible study experience. |
