I have told you a story and I am telling you the
outcome of the story and it is a worthy
experience. I told you the story of Peter, who
finds it difficult using the computer that he paid
high school fees for and left the school without
the proper knowledge he needs in computer.
He left the school a computer malnourished
student.
I am a story teller and I still tell this story for
every one to see and hear from. I worked hard
as a teacher and friend and my work shall
never fail me. You will not blame anybody for
what is going to be the result. In 1990, I fuel is
sold at about 40-45 naira. The school has to
use at least three liters of fuel daily which is
needed to maintain, the usage of the computer,
which when multiplied in five days, and in nine
months will result to this calculations,
45x6x30x12=97,000. a year for fuel. If the
works that is needed for the computer to run
with all the expenses should be calculated, this
means that the whole total including the
maintenances will come up to 300,000 naira.
The Whiteman from the foreign organization
came with the five set of computer to a village
with no sign of electricity. The governments
have thrown out the school with the bath water.
So, the headmistress have to find way to use
the computers by finding funds at such is
300,000 to make sure that the gifts that was
given to the school does not go to waste.
500 naira + 500= 1000 naira… This means the
computer usage will be reduced to one hour a
day, the pupil will watch, the theory and go
home with certificate a computer practical
novice.
If they pay, 1500 naira, which produces
500,000 means there is extra 200,000 to solve
the problems of the school.

The pupils used to pay 500 naira when the
school needed nothing but chalks, and the
report cards. So with the new development, the
school fees have to be reviewed upwards. To
solve the problem of the school, the head of
the school checked the population of the
school and they are five hundred pupils.
If the school fees are increased to 2500 naira,
there will be enough money to even rebuild the
school walls and zincs. Immediately, he knew
the parent hears it they will riot. So, the
mathematics follows. They will fight for
everything which is their rights. The school
works can be done. People can come as well
and do photocopy too. In times of training, only
one percent out of 10 will actually torch the
computer.
Nigerian loved over budgeting, if they paid extra
2500 and it becomes a million plus. The head
will at least go home with 175 BOBO, Suzuki
motorcycle or any other kind of machine. While
the remaining of the money will be invested at
the end of the term for the food and the
crayfish, milk, onions, and other things that the
teachers will go home with and if possible a
bag of rice.
So the pupils were told school fees had
increased to 3000. And so the angry parents,
who could not pay 500 naira, came to the
school to tear it apart. The students who had
recently joined bad wagon from the beginning,
who needs school properties will make trouble
and the whole school will be in confusion.
These parents threatened the head of the
school not knowing that their fate has been
decided upon asked that the school fees be
reduced to 1000 naira. And that, if the school
fees are not reduced they will deal with the
head of the school… Some wrote letters that
the head be removed from the school.
The head accepted. The computer usage was
reduced from the needed five to two computer
usage. From the three hours to one hour but
because the school will use the computers and
other accessories for business, the computer
can be on as long as it could because the
customer which includes the students will pay
for the service rendered to them. The pupil
enters the computer room with joy of the
computer on, to which the head realized there
wont be enough fuel asked the security officer
of the school to off the generator without delay.
The pupils passed the theory of what is
computer and how has the computer been
useful to them and went home a computer
illiterate because pupils of their age are already
typing their assignments in Microsoft words
abroad.
The computer usage was equally reduced to
two times usage a week, so that in every
whether the Head can drive their 175 Bobo,
Suzuki motorcycle which is needed to run the
errands of the school. Normally the parent who
loved what is going on in the school may be
interested in the knowledge of computer for
their children, so will donate to make sure that
their children see the computer every day of
their schooling life. After the school term is
over, the head will them buy rice, inions, beans,
crayfish, milk, which will be shared by the
school teachers. The best student in computer
knowledge will be recognized. The head went
home the best Head teacher every where.
