Kate Middleton’s outfits usually take up a lot of space. But it feels like forever since we’ve seen the extra large hats — complete with flowers and feathers — and gowns that often trail out of frame in her photographs. That’s part of what makes the overly digital era of quarantine so fascinating to watch unfold. Middleton is still getting dressed, but now we have to watch people overanalyze every aspect of her pixelated outfits, which barely peek out of frame over Zoom or WebEx (or whatever digital conference tool British royalty uses).
And for obvious reasons, Middleton’s recent digital appearances have featured outfits that are more relatable. Does that mean we’ve stopped getting overly excited about something as simple as a unique neckline? No. But can you blame us? Middleton having to take meetings virtually means a lot of her outfits are not so different from the ones we wear to work from our own living rooms — which means many of them are also more affordable.
While virtually thanking volunteer groups who have helped out during the pandemic in light of Volunteer Week, Middleton wore a pair of $5 earrings (that, to no surprise, have since sold out) and a white eyelet shirt from the under-the-radar british brand M.I.H. jeans. The mabel shirt, which (again, unsurprisingly) has also sold out, features the same scalloped neckline Middleton has been a fan of recently. But what’s more notable than the repeating trend is the fact that nearly everything else from M.I.H. jeans is still in stock online. The label is available to shop on Amazon and select pieces are majorly discounted at Madewell.
It may be a while until we see Kate Middleton in another elaborate hat, though we would love to see one of them try to fit into the Zoom frame. Until then, we’ll bask in her newfound affinity for inconspicuous brands that we can actually fit into our budgets.
